Skating on Sacred Land is my way of honouring my people, our deep connection to Country, and my love of roller derby. It carries the strength of our Ancestors - their stories, resilience and wisdom that still guide us today.
This design celebrates the derby community - a diverse group united by passion and movement. The track and Aboriginal symbols tell the story of our different journeys, and how together we build strength, resistance and belonging.
We all skate on sacred land. But roller derby still holds many barriers for First Nations people - access isn’t equal, and the fight for recognition and respect continues.
May this design remind us to honour Country and the First Peoples, to hold respect in our hearts, and to never take our presence here for granted.
