Southern Sky Navigation Hoodie

In Aboriginal culture, the group of stars commonly called the Southern Cross isn’t just a fixed symbol - it’s part of living sky knowledge, and its meaning can change depending on the Nation and story.

In some traditions, those stars are part of creation stories and ancestral beings placed in the sky. In others, they’re understood through the broader sky system - like being part of the Emu in the Sky, a dark constellation formed by the Milky Way rather than just the bright stars.

Importantly, the stars were also used in practical ways:
Navigation - helping guide travel across land and waters, especially at night

Seasonal knowledge - their position in the sky could signal changes in season, weather or animal behaviour

Lore and story - used to teach cultural knowledge, responsibilities and relationships to Country

As skaters from Australia travel across land and sea, this design becomes a map in motion - honouring the oldest living cultures in the world and the history we all share. Wearing this tee is a chance to walk in truth, reconciliation and respect for the cultures and lands we skate upon - We are all Skating on Sacred Land.
