Flowing Waters features a roller derby track encircled by Aboriginal symbols representing people and the freshwater animals of the river systems.
Created from the perspective of a proud freshwater woman of Wakka Wakka Country, this design is deeply connected to river Country and the life it holds. As river people, water is more than a landscape - it is spirit, memory, connection and bloodline. The animals woven around the track pay tribute to the living beings of our waterways and the Ancestors who have walked beside these rivers since time immemorial.
This piece brings together two worlds that are both sacred to me: roller derby and Country. The circular motion of the track echoes the flowing pathways of our river systems, symbolising community, movement, resilience and the way we are all held by the land beneath us.
