Skating on Sacred Land with Pride is a celebration of queerness, blakness and the dynamic sport of Roller Derby. It features the vibrant Pride flag woven together with the Rainbow Serpent, our powerful Creator Spirit, to acknowledge that we were all made as equals.
As a queer blak artist and roller derby skater, I wanted to create something that speaks to our truths: that Pride is not just a celebration, it’s a declaration. A reminder that roller derby is a sport for everybody, and that everyone deserves to feel safe, seen and celebrated on the track and in community. This piece also honours the truth that Brotherboys and Sistergirls have always played an important part in our stories, and they always will.
Every time we skate, we are doing so on sacred land, land that holds the stories of our Ancestors and carries the power of resilience, resistance and community. Let’s skate with intention, with pride and with unity, for each other and for the generations yet to come.
