Skating on Sacred Land
Skating on Sacred Land is a cultural project founded by proud Wakka Wakka artist Sharni Ferrari, who has been a part of the roller derby community for over a decade.
Sharni created Skating on Sacred Land to celebrate sovereignty and cultural visibility, ancestor connection and spirit-led creation, blak joy, movement, the reclamation of space in alternative and skate culture, and art as both resistance and offering.
The project honours Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander identity, culture and creativity, and recognises that sovereignty was never ceded. Every time we skate - at a park, rink or roller derby track across this land now called Australia - we are Skating On Sacred Land.
